Dojo Rules & Etiquette for Tora Shintai Karate-Do

  • Karate students are to bow at the door when entering and leaving
    the dojo. 
  • Once Karate students have entered the Dojo, please follow all
    rules from your instructor and higher grades.
  • Please sign in for every class by handing in your Membership card.
  • Please remove all jewellery before training.
  • Make sure finger nails are cut and not extended further than your
    fingers
  • When called to ‘line up’ please move quickly to your position,
    stop talking and stand still.
  • Please treat everyone in the dojo with respect and good manners.
  • Please do not wear shoes on the Dojo training mat. 
    Unless they are Karate shoes that are worn in dojo only
    (pine tree and adidas black sole shoes).
  • Karate students are to address black belt instructors as ‘Sensei’
    and all other instructors as ‘Sempai’ in the Dojo and at all
    Karate Events.
  • Karate students are to show respect in the Dojo and not answer
    back to instructors, push ups will be enforced and a possible
    suspension if respect is not shown.
  • Once Karate students have bowed into a class they are not to
    walk away from the class unless they have bowed out to the
    instructor.
  • Students are not to walk in front of a class unless invited.
  • When entering a line/row students must walk down the aisle that
    they are lining up into, do not walk across the class.
  • A Karate student who is caught stealing will be expelled from
    Tora Shintai Karate-Do and not be allowed to train with other
    local Martial Arts Clubs.
  • Karate students are to refrain from talking during a Karate session.
  • Karate students are to help with the set up of a karate session, i.e.
    the setting up of mats.
  • Karate students are to learn and say the Dojo Kun with respect and meaning.
  • Parents and other observers will refrain from noise during a
    Karate session as Karate students need to concentrate.  If you wish
    to talk please feel free to sit in the outdoor grass area.
  • Parents and other observers are to please refrain from smoking
    outside the dojo doors as Karate students need to
    train in clean fresh air.
